About
Ronald McDonald House Charities

Greater Western Sydney

Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing vital programs for families with seriously ill children.

We run a range of programs across Sydney including our Westmead House, Nepean Family Room and Education Services.

Through our accommodation and support services, we strive to keep families together when life gets turned upside down due to a child’s serious illness or injury.

Our Houses and Programs are run by a hard-working team of staff and dedicated volunteers, aided by the generous support of our donors, community and corporate partners.

The families you’re supporting

Meet Hamish, Benji, Jake and Louie and their families – and find out why the Westmead House is ‘a saviour’ for them.

Our House at Westmead

Ronald McDonald House Westmead gives seriously ill children the best gift of all – their families. Our House is a warm and supportive home-away-from-home for families of children travelling to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead for treatment.

It provides a safe and welcoming environment where families can stay connected, and parents can communicate more easily with their child’s medical team.

In 2018, Ronald McDonald House Westmead was completely transformed into a purpose-built, 60-room home catering for more families in need. Now we can support over 2,000 families a year.

Other programs

Family Room

Our Family Room in Nepean Hospital, Kingswood, is a refuge for parents of newborn babies being cared for in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. We provide a kitchen, bathroom, laundry facilities, lounge and dining area and a space for the kids to play.

Learning Program

The Ronald McDonald Learning Program is designed to help children catch up on their missed education when they return to school, following lengthy hospital stays and absences. The program allows children to access tutoring with qualified teachers, at no cost.

Education Services

Our Education Services team run a range of activities complementary to schooling for children and their siblings staying at the House. They also provide professional development sessions for teachers – EdMed – to support them in reintegrating children at school after a long period of illness.

“Ronald McDonald House relieved some of our burden – we are so grateful for everything.”
